Province Supports Manitoba Eco-Network Work

Funding of $60,000 has been presented today to Manitoba Eco-Network in support of the organization’s ongoing operations by Conservation Minister Bill Blaikie.

The Honourable Bill Blaikie

“The Manitoba Eco-Network contributes significantly to enhancing environmental education in our province,” said Blaikie. ”The organization plays an important role in co-ordinating and fostering communications between environmental organizations at the grassroots level and the province is pleased to help support their work.”

The Manitoba Eco-Network provides an umbrella organization for a number of environmental organizations that help educate the public on environmental issues.  The Manitoba Eco-Network offers a referral and information service, along with a library and public registry services that are open to the public. It also publishes Eco-Journal, a regular publication of environmental news and views in Manitoba.

Provincial funding enables the Manitoba Eco-Network to deliver environment-related community programs including:

  • participating as a member of the Public Registry Network,
  • carrying out its Eco-Volunteer and Environmental Awards program, and
  • maintaining its association with the Canadian Environmental Network.

Recent projects include the Organic Lawn Education Project, Geographic Information Systems (GIS)/Mapping Centre, Manitoba Environmental Youth Network and the Children’s Health and Environment Partnership.

This is the second year of funding in a three-year agreement.
