Casinos of Winnipeg Earn National Environmental Certification
The Casinos of Winnipeg have earned certification as BOMA BESt facilities for continuing to assess and upgrade the environmental performance of their buildings. BOMA BESt (Building Environmental Standards) is a national environmental recognition and certification program for existing commercial buildings offered through the Building Owners and Managers Association.
“Manitoba Lotteries considers the environmental impacts in all its business activities,” said Winston Hodgins, President and CEO of Manitoba Lotteries. “At Club Regent Casino and McPhillips Station Casino, that means looking at how we can conserve water and energy, reduce waste, improve air quality and seek sustainable construction and maintenance practices.”
The Casinos of Winnipeg join a growing trend among commercial building operators to view business operations from an environmental perspective. About 40 other buildings in Manitoba are certified BOMA BESt. The BOMA BESt certification process helps to assess how well a building is performing environmentally, and offers tangible ways to improve environmental practices. Leading up to their certification, the casinos underwent energy, water and solid waste management audits.
