NBC Profiles Manitoba Business During Olympics
Winnipeg-based Frontiers North Adventures’ phones are ringing non-stop this morning after being featured last night on NBC’s coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Over 20 million viewers tuned into watch NBC’s coverage of the Winter Olympics last night, driving thousands of people to Frontiers North’s websites after the segment that featured the company and the non-profit organization, Polar Bears International (PBI).
“There was so much traffic to frontiersnorth.com and tundrabuggy.com from the United States and Canada that our web servers crashed for a short period of time,” says Jaime Dzikowski, Marketing Manager of Frontiers North Adventures. “Our Adventure Planners are also very busy this morning with new inquiries for our Tundra Buggy adventures.”
Frontiers North hosted NBC sportscaster Mary Carillo this past autumn in Churchill to film a series of vignettes on Frontiers North’s Tundra Buggy Adventure and with PBI on the plight of the polar bear. The first video segment aired last night with a second Churchill installment scheduled to air on Thursday.
Frontiers North Adventures is known as an international leader in Canada’s sustainable tourism industry, providing amazing wildlife viewing programs in Canada’s north. The company generates polar bear-habitat conservation awareness through partnerships with organizations including PBI, a non-profit dedicated to conservation of polar bears. Groundbreaking initiatives from this partnership include PBI Leadership Camp and PBI Tundra Connections that feature polar bear species experts.
The operator has been honoured with Skal International’s 2009 Ecotourism Award, Travel Manitoba’s Sustainable Tourism and Ecotourism Awards and is recognized by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada as one of the top three sustainable tourism operators in Canada.
