Mr. Jack Wilson

Bio: Jack Wilson was born and raised in Dauphin, Manitoba, and attended Red River College in Winnipeg where he studied Business Administration.
 
Jack joined Manitoba Hydro in 1972 in Brandon, working as a Business Trainee. Over the course of his 37 year career with the utility, Jack worked in Thompson for some 14 years over two tours, Portage la Prairie, and also in Winnipeg. He retired in March 2010, as the Manager of Major Accounts. His career allowed him the wonderful opportunity to work all across Manitoba and throughout Canada.

Since his retirement, Jack continues to work, although in a different fashion.  He is utilising his knowledge and experience of Manitoba, and contacts across the Province to help make the province a better place to live and work. He is working with the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce as the Manitoba Community Coordinator for a business pilot project called Third Quarter. Jack is also working for Manitoba Hydro International, where he is leading the establishment of a new business model for the company.

Over his career, Jack has had a strong interest and involvement in community affairs, particularly as it involves the betterment of his community. Jack’s accomplishments include:

  • Past President of the Portage Chamber of Commerce
  • Past Board Chair and current board member of the Chamber Insurance Corporation of Canada
  • Past-Chair of the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce and continuing directorship on the Board of the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce. He is the 2008 recipient from the Manitoba Chamber of Commerce of the Harry Mardon Award recognizing exemplary direct service to the MCC
  • Board Member of Southport Aero Space Inc. in Portage La Prairie
  • Past President of the Portage Kinsmen Club and past Deputy Governor of the District
  • Life Member of the Kinsmen Association of Canada  
  • Life Member of the Portage la Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce.
  • Recipient in 2002 of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for volunteer work
  • Jack is currently the incoming President of the Winnipeg Charleswood Rotary Club

Jack is married to Muriel Sutherland and together they have four married children. Mur and Jack also delight in their three grandchildren. Jack enjoys their cottage at Lac du Bonnet, fishing, boating, visits with family and friends, and being involved in the community.
